Official Rules

Construction

• Scarecrows must be no taller than 7 feet and no wider than 3 feet.
• We recommend building your scarecrow on a sturdy central frame, such as PVC pipe or wooden stakes.
• We recommend keeping your Scarecrow a manageable weight for transportation.
• Securely attach all parts of your Scarecrow during construction – use strong glue, stitching and reinforced joints!
• Use weather-proof materials to construct your Scarecrow – it will be outdoors and exposed to the elements like wind and rain for several weeks!
• No electrical components permitted, unless they are battery operated, fully contained and safe for outdoor use.
• No open flames, perishable food or plants that will rot.
• Scarecrows must be free of dangerous parts, sharp edges or protrusions.
• Designs must be family friendly and appropriate for all audiences. Scarecrows that are not in good taste, overly political, or other themes deemed inappropriate by the town may not be accepted or displayed.
• Scarecrows not complying with these rules will be removed.
• Neither the Town of Kearny nor the KUEZ is not responsible to any vandalism to your Scarecrow. So check in on them every so often to make sure they’re looking their best!
